160 Volunteers
You might expect to find it in an organization of
sales-types and glad-handers. But nowhere is there
more comradeship and volunteer spirit than in the
National Conference of CPA Practitioners (NCCPAP).
This was evident at last month’s three-day tax symposium
on Long Island staged by its Nassau-Suffolk Chapter.
It’s impressive enough that 650 financial professionals (a
record) turned out all three days. But to make it all happen at
Long Island’s upscale Crest Hollow Country Club, 160 volunteers
pitched in for all sorts of tasks leading up to and during the event.
One night, 50 showed up to stuff bags with educational material
for each attendee.
Assembly Line
Each volunteer walked 20 times around a circle in a super
efficient assembly line picking up the items to fill some 650
bags. They came from all over the tri-state area and from as
far away as Florida to help out.
President and Exec
President Karen Giunta (l)
has high praise for Executive
Director Holly Coscetta who
runs the day-to-day operations
of the national organization,
which has members in all
50 states and active chapters
in areas with large concentrations
of members. NCCPAP is the “only true voice” of the
practicing Certified Public Accountant – a trusted advisor frequently
courted by insurance and investment practitioners.
Symposium: Year ‘Round Job
Work goes on year ‘round on the Nassau-Suffolk symposium
– a local event with a national following. They come from
all over and choose from more than 80 different sessions. Kathy
Casey, the symposium’s full-time administrator, visits with attendee
Donald Mondschein of New City, NY.
FA in the Bag
Susan Martin, CPA of Merrick, NY hands over an FA magazine
on the “fill the bags” assembly line. She’s joined by girl scout Callie
Bubb of Greenport. Callie and a dozen of her troop members
helped with the symposium to earn community service points.
Their advisor, RuthAnne Corazzini, CPA is a NCPAP member.
Administrator and Aide
Etta Gelbien (l), administrator for the Nassau-Suffolk chapter
is shown with her symposium assistant Joanne Peck. They
worked a sophisticated registration system whereby each attendees’
class schedule was printed on the back of his/her
name badge, which was bar coded for easy check in for each
session.
